The Huntingdon Dance Academy (HDA), was established in 2012 by former professional dancers Kristin Shoaf Roberts and Jamie Rhett Roberts. The school emphasizes classical ballet in addition to a variety of other dance styles that are required to succeed as a dancer. HDA is the training ground for students with a passion for dance. When seeking high-quality dance training, people will come to know of Huntingdon, PA as the place to go.

The school Directors utilize their broad background in classical ballet to give young dancers a strong foundation upon which they can build. Students are exposed to various styles of dance, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, Contemporary, Modern, Acro, and Pas de Deux (partnering). Dancers are also provided opportunities to take Master Classes from experts in various genres of dance.

Our school provides an academic basis for becoming well-rounded dancers and individuals. We challenge young students and help them to gain confidence, strength and a clear sense of themselves as individuals.
Services
Valerie Franks started dancing at age nine with Carol Thompson at CTSD.
She continued dancing at Allegheny Ballet Academy under Deborah Anthony.
She performed in Allegheny Ballet Company productions including The Nutcracker and Snow White as well as various spring recitals.
She has also taken dance classes at Penn State University.
As a student at Juniata Valley High School, Valerie was in show choir.
She has maintained active involvement as a choreographer for Show Choir and Select Chorus through 2012.
HDA occupies the ground floor of the Penn Street Cultural Center (the former UNB Bank building) in the heart of Huntingdon's Historical Downtown District.
The former lobby of the bank has been turned into two studios (Studio A and Studio B) with a third studio in a former Executive Office (Studio C).
In 2019 we added an additional dance studio ( Studio D).
HDA's studios have sprung dance floors covered with "Marley", providing state of the art studios similar to those used in the professional dance world.
Acro is based on a combination of gymnastic skills, contortion, and dance.
Warm up consists of core work, strength, and toning exercises.
Beginners learn basic gymnastics skills that are further developed as they advance.
Once students master a skill they will then move on to more difficult level of tumbling.
Flexibility skills will be taught and routinely gone over until each individual student has mastered each skill.
Ballet is the foundation of many other forms of dance.
It provides grace, poise and technique needed in the other dance genres, and therefore it is important for all serious dancers.
