Colleen Cannon Benoit established The Lake Charles Dance Academy in 2011 after many years of teaching, performing and training in classical ballet. She spent most of her years studying and teaching at the Clarke Dance Center, under the direction of the late Ida Winter Clarke and her daughter Cissie Clarke. She studied nationally receiving many scholarships for study and took classes with many nationally renowned teachers.
Her training includes two scholarships to the Regional Dance America's Craft of Choreography Conference, The School of American Ballet in NYC, The North Carolina School of the Arts, The Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, the International Ballet Competition, and the Joffrey Workshop. She has had the privilege of studying with world renowned teachers including Edward Villella, Gwen Ashton, Marjorie Mussman, David Howard, Robert Joffrey, Richard Englund, Patricia Wilde, Soili Arvola and Leo Ahonen.
She has performed lead roles in many of the full length ballets that the Lake Charles Ballet Society produced including Coppelia, The Nutcracker, and La Fille Mal Gardee.

The Lake Charles Dance Academy is dedicated first and foremost to the quality teaching of classical ballet.
Classical ballet provides the foundation for all other dance forms.
It is the most demanding, most disciplined of all dance forms; but also the most rewarding.
With a solid ballet foundation, classically trained dancers can transfer their skills into jazz, modern dance, or any other dance form they might decide to pursue.
The Lake Charles Dance Academy provides students with that solid ballet foundation that helps to build a versatile dancer.

Missed classes cannot be used as credit for tuition payments.
Absences are to be made up within 30 days.
Please note - some classes cannot be made up as many of our classes are at capacity.
WE NOW HAVE CAMERAS FOR THE ENTIRE PARKING AREA to help us monitor motorists for the safety of our students.
Please be cautious as you drive in and out of the lot.
No parents are allowed past the waiting room - other than to use the restroom or to get water.
Dance shoes are NOT to be worn outside.
Level I ballet/tap students - please change into ballet shoes and have tap shoes in hand BEFORE you go into class.
