J & D Dance Academy is home to two competitive dance teams -- Premier Company for middle school students and Senior Company for middle and high school students. Our competitive dance teams are designed for students who truly love all of the things that come with dance, from the classroom to the stage, and who want to take their training to the next level.
It's for our students who want dance to be their primary activity, and who look forward to coming to classes and rehearsals each week. It's a perfect fit for students who are eager to learn, who want to be challenged, and who want to see how far they can push themselves. Through our competition teams, we try to give them every opportunity to do so.
Our expectation is that our competition dancers will come to class and rehearsals each week, ready to work, that they will remember the choreography from the week before, and that they will be open to feedback and corrections. We expect that they will have a positive attitude in class towards their teammates and all of their instructors, and that they will always try their hardest.

Services
J & D Dance Academy was established 25 years ago by Deanna-the 'D' and her sister Jodi-the 'J'.
Together the sisters created a wonderful studio for dance in the beautiful town of Reading.
The upstairs of the historic Knights of Columbus building has a grand atmosphere with its six foot windows and light filled studios.
Back then, the studio offered Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop and since Jodi was still a member of the New England Patriots Cheerleaders, she brought Cheerdance to Reading.
The establishment rapidly grew to include All-Star Cheerleading teams which eventually outgrew-literally- the ceilings were too low-the Sanborn Street space.

It's a common question to hear from parents and students alike: What purpose does the dress code actually serve?
We're glad you asked!
The number one factor in establishing a dress code is for all students' safety in class.
A basic leotard and tights, along with hair pulled back and the appropriate shoes, ensures that there are no extraneous clothes or jewelry that can become hazardous.
The dress code also helps teachers see that students are using the right muscles and alignment in order to learn the correct movements in class.

Your "call time" (or arrival time) is typically 2 hours prior to your scheduled performance.

We will be taking individual headshots as well as group photos for each company.
Parents are NOT required to stay for the duration of the photoshoot.
INDOOR SHOTS: We'll begin the shoot with some group action shots in the studio, followed by individual headshots, then photos of each group separately and all together.
For these shots you'll need hair down, light make-up if desired, black leotard, black dance leggings, jazz shoes as well as studio jacket.
If you are new to the team and don't yet have a jacket, just remind us and we'll have you borrow one the day of the shoot.
